I was wondering why it was so hight in Norway , it being an oil producer . Besides the taxes , I wonder where that oil is refined etc.?

Norwegians only work 1400 hours per year on average. That's about 800 hours less than I do each year, or 100 8 hour shift days. Their 2008 per capita PPP was nearly $60,000 (USD) versus $47,000 for the USA. That extra $$$ and extra time off would buy you a nice long Furthur tour to follow.

I am half Norwegian , and I am somewhat aware of how things are there ( try their murder rate ...) .There is not the disparity of wealth that occurred in the other "industrial revolution" nations, they are a mostly ethnicity homogenous nation, they limit their population, the have endless nonpolluting energy ( lots of small scale hydroelectric ), they have oil ( North Sea ), and they got all their violence out of their system in the Dark Ages .
What I hear is that it is a nice place to live ( now the weather ...), but a boring place to live . The USA is , crazy, violent , reckless, but not boring .
